it has no wings, either

April 18, 2011

the mighty balrog has no socks
it makes its footwear out of rocks
so great is its internal heat
it melts the floor beneath its feet
unless with stone it sheathes its toes
twixt feet and ground to interpose
so while it clomps about the crags
two mighty chunks of rock it drags
and when the soles are quite worn through
it chucks them out and makes some new
those are the rocks that dot the ground
across the plain for miles around
although the balrog’s long since gone
its worn-out footwear lingers on
the scientist’s erratic blocks
are long discarded balrog-socks

This is absolutely blooming brilliant. I see you’re exploring the tetrameter thing further, as well (I liked “PSA” too).
