University Challenge: Peterhouse vs. Exeter
Caught up with Monday’s episode just now. Peterhouse College, Cambridge – the oldest Cambridge college, founded in 1284 – never looked seriously threatened by the University of Exeter, and won handily by 265 points to 165.
I scored 290, 220 without un-startered bonuses, including fourteen starters. I got full marks on three rounds: one on recent additions to the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations (including one by Paris Hilton, to which Paxman’s comment was “Terrible, isn’t it?”); one on alphabets represented on the Wikipedia globe; and one on monsters of Greek myth. This is also the first time that my knowing the word ‘prebendary’ has ever come in useful.
