University Challenge: Clare vs. UCL

October 24, 2009

UCL took on Clare College, Cambridge, this week, in what turned out not to be round 2 but the first of the highest-scoring-losers’ matches to finish off round 1. UCL won handily by 220 to 145.

I scored 240 this week, 170 discounting bonuses to which I didn’t know the starter. Did well on the word-related and quotation rounds, utterly failed to identify Motown covers of the Beatles, also failed at major cities of the Hanseatic League.

This week’s show was followed by a little announcement saying “If you want to form a student team for the next UC, email [this address] or ring [this number].” Might just have to look into that.

Does [our uni] not have a team? In which case, YEAH DO IT

The ‘form a team’ letter goes to the head of the student exec … who is about equally likely to forget it or name a team consisting of themselves and three mates. I imagine the BBC publish the details so individual students can badger their unis about it . . .

    “[our uni]”

    You security-conscious person.

    Guilty as charged.

I shall remember to control myself in future. Any rules that allow me to go by the name of Seamus Geary have got to be worth following.
